A Little About the Area We’re Proud to Call Home
You can spend lazy days enjoying miles of pristine, white sand beaches, take advantage of our great off-shore, inshore, or freshwater fishing, be enthralled by the beauty of the exquisite flowers and sculptures at Brookgreen Gardens, view the abundant birds and wildlife at Cape Romain National Refuge, Huntington Beach State Park & Frances Marion National Park, play golf at a Jack Nicholas Signature Course, enjoy fine dining at restaurants featured in such national publications as Gourmet, Bon Appetite, Southern Living, GQ & Esquire, attend one of the area’s many festivals, browse our exquisite shops, visit South Carolina's newest and largest mall, Coastal Grand Mall, or do some bargain hunting at The Tanger Outlet Mall.
As we are located a little over an hour north of Charleston you can enjoy the serenity of our quiet beaches one day and take a day trip back in time to the antebellum period of our country’s history the next. Walk along the Battery, take a carriage ride, visit Fort Sumpter, or tour Boone Hall Plantation. If you’re feeling more 20th Century, you can visit the state’s newest aquarium (overlooking Charleston Harbor and its famous bridges) or tour Patriot’s Point Marine Museum, where the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, the destroyer USS Laffey, the cold-war submarine USS Clamagore and the Coast Guard Cutter Ingham are moored.
Only 25 miles to our north is Myrtle Beach. There you will find entertainment geared toward families at The Pavilion Amusement Park, NASCAR Speed Park, Myrtle Waves Water Park, two dinner show theaters (Medieval Times & Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede), and the IMAX Discovery Theater, as well as outstanding “after dark” entertainment at the Celebrity Square nightclubs at Broadway at the Beach, the House of Blues, or any of the dozens of clubs along the “Grand Strand” which regularly have top-quality live music.
And if all this wasn’t enough, we have great schools, too! Waccamaw High, Waccamaw Middle & Waccamaw Elementary Schools consistently receive high ratings on South Carolina’s Annual Report Cards. In fact, Waccamaw High achieves a high percentage of students passing the exit exam on their first try, and 40% of Waccamaw High students earned LIFE scholarships with their SAT scores & grade point averages this year.
Thank you for letting us brag a little. Please let us know what we can do to help you make your home here.
