This three hour van tour requires little walking but includes highlights of Hobcaw's history. Once eleven plantations, the property was bought in 1905-07 by Bernard Baruch, native South Carolinian and Wall Street financier. At this winter retreat he and other millionaires hunted ducks, deer and wild turkeys throughout the 17,500 acres. The van stops for a tour inside his 1930 mansion that played host to politicians, generals and newspapermen as well as Winston Churchill and President Franklin Roosevelt.

DISCOVER the amazing collection of plants, animals, birds and marine life that make up the best example in nature of a complete Ecosystem. Not an artificial environment like a zoo or aquarium, this is the real thing. Our discover tour is interactive. Various nets and dredges are employed to retrieve specimens from beneath the water. Specimens go into onboard touch-tanks where they can be seen, observed and when appropriate touched and held. All living specimens are returned to the water. There's also a fishing demonstration and a beach walk along a barrier island not accessible by car. An added bonus- not every trip, but frequently we encounter bottle nosed dolphins (FLIPPER) on our tours, a real treat. All Explorer vessels are rest room equipped.

The dolphin watch goes aboard the "OSPREY" a high-speed rigid aluminum inflatable vessel well suited for dolphin watching. Tour emphasizes the ecology, wildlife, and beauty of the coast. The cruise host will talk to you about dolphins in the wild and explain the search methods while looking for other things such as Osprey, Egrets, Herons, and Eagles. Remember, this is a fun and adventure trip on the ocean for all ages, so sunscreen and sunglasses are a good idea. You could get wet from the wave spray so dress comfortably.
